Assam Flood Relief 2026: Restoring Dignity and Rebuilding Lives

“We have lost everything.”

— A displaced mother returning to her inundated village in Assam.

Continuous torrential rainfall and the overflowing of major rivers, including the Dikhow River, have triggered devastating floods across Assam. Over 100 lives have been lost, and nearly 1.4 lakh people have been affected. As water levels recede, thousands of families returning from temporary relief camps face a grim reality: collapsed homes, destroyed crop fields, lost livestock, contaminated water sources, and wiped-out livelihoods.

In agricultural and tea plantation belts, daily-wage workers, women-headed households, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities face severe vulnerabilities, health risks, and isolation due to damaged infrastructure.

Stand With Assam

EFICOR’s Emergency Response on the Ground

Drawing upon nearly six decades of humanitarian disaster response and community resilience work across India, EFICOR launched an Emergency Flood Relief Response targeting 3,000 vulnerable households across the severely affected districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Charaideo.

Following comprehensive rapid needs assessments in villages across the Nazira Block (including Konwar, Teangahola, and Babun Pokhiri), our team is coordinating directly with the District Administration, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and local community leaders to bridge urgent early-recovery gaps.

Addressing Critical Humanitarian Gaps

While initial government and community efforts provided emergency cooked meals and basic rations, severe recovery gaps persist:

Reaching the Unreached:

Prolonged waterlogging and damaged roads have cut off remote communities. EFICOR is focusing on underserved hamlets often missed by standard relief pipelines.

People-Centred & Dignified Aid:

Multipurpose Cash Transfers empower families to address their specific medical, shelter, and nutritional priorities without dependency.

CHS-Certified Accountability:

As a Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) certified organization, EFICOR implements transparent, community-led beneficiary selection ensuring aid reaches the most vulnerable without duplication.
