In the serene village of Atapur, Mr. Sarvan Thakur, a 29-year-old lifelong resident, shared his life with his cherished family, including his two sons, Priyansu (9 years old) and Mahesh Kumar (7 years old), and his 5-year-old daughter, Pratibha. Despite owning 7 "KATTHA" of land, his farming efforts were confined to 5 "katha," dedicated to wheat cultivation, due to the challenge of a river separating his land from the village. With just one harvest per year lasting 4-5 months, he sought livelihood opportunities elsewhere, becoming a distress migrant for the past 8 years, traveling between Delhi and Bangalore, leaving his young family behind.
His life took a turn for the better when he attended an IGP meeting in Atapur village, where he learned about EFICOR's support for Income Generation Programs (IGP). With determination, he applied through the village Development Management Committee (DMC) and received a grant of Rs. 10,000 in Shalon materials. With this support, Mr. Sarvan Thakur opened a barber shop in Atapur. Though he faced initial challenges in building clientele, his skills and friendly demeanor gradually won over the village. Today, his thriving barber shop earns him Rs. 300-400 per day, providing stability for his family and allowing him to stay with them, bringing happiness and newfound economic security to their lives.
