Raju Purushottam Wadighare (51), a long-time resident of Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Nagpur, faced a life-altering crisis in July 2019 when he was diagnosed as HIV positive. Upon learning of his status, his employer terminated him unfairly and denied his pending salary. This led to severe emotional distress, depression, financial instability, and even suicidal thoughts.
Referred by another NGO, Raju was supported by EFICOR through emotional counselling and psychosocial care. He was registered for livelihood support and received Rs. 10,000/- to make a down payment for an E-Rickshaw. EFICOR also connected him with caregivers and other NGOs for legal aid, ration supplies, and hygiene kits, helping him rebuild his life from the ground up.
Today, Raju lives with dignity and renewed confidence. He earns Rs. 25,000–30,000 per month, saves Rs. 500 daily, and is proudly supporting his family, especially his daughter’s education. His CD4 count improved from 86 to 264, reflecting better health. Raju has not only overcome stigma and despair but is also actively working toward a secure future. In his own words, “Khau piun sukhi aaho – Eating and living a good life.”
