In Chamreka Dera village, Burhanpur District, resides 30-month-old Aditya Chavhan. Abandoned by his mother at 16 months and with a father more invested in alcohol than his son, Aditya was left in the care of his elderly grandparents. Due to their limited income and lack of essential nutrition, Aditya's health rapidly declined, and he became severely malnourished.
When the project team visited his village in April 2023, they found Aditya critically ill with malnutrition and skin infections. His grandparents, bound by their daily labor and traditional beliefs, had been seeking remedies from religious leaders rather than medical professionals.
Persistent counseling by the project team eventually convinced his grandparents to admit Aditya to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC) in Burhanpur. Upon admission, Aditya weighed a mere 5.6 kg with a height of 73 cm. Following proper care and treatment, he left the NRC weighing 10.1 kg and standing at 83 cm. The project further supported the family with a nutrition kit and educated them on optimal feeding practices.
Thanks to consistent interventions and follow-ups, Aditya's health transformed. He now weighs 11 kg and has a height of 89 cm. His grandparents are grateful to EFICOR for guiding them and reviving Aditya's health.
