EFICOR'S RESPONSE To Covid - 19 Second Wave Update-7

Posted on June 20, 2021   |

Dear Partners,

It’s been more than a year since the Covid pandemic changed our lives leaving in it’s trail, unforgettable scars in communities, families and individual lives. It has moved beyond being a health crisis to being a devastating socio-economic crisis. The World Bank has estimated that 150 million people might have been pushed into extreme poverty in the year 2021 due to the Covid-19 disaster. In India, all plans for village development or Gram Panchayat development are on hold because of Covid.

After experiencing the first and second wave, EFICOR is now preparing communities to tackle a possible third wave as predicted by various groups. We are not only providing food assistance or cash for work during this pandemic but are also involved in mitigating risk of disease by promoting Covid Appropriate Behaviours. This includes creating awareness to reduce vaccine hesitancy. We believe that vaccination is one of the ways to mitigate this deadly disease and we are actively engaged with the Government, other NGOs, local religious groups and communities together to maximize vaccine coverage. Before we see any third wave, our desire is that every poor and vulnerable person is vaccinated. This update of EFICOR’s Covid Response highlights the vaccination drives done so far in our intervention areas. Under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority there has been close coordination of the government and NGO efforts at the district and Panchayat (local self-governing bodies) level for effective vaccination programs. EFICOR, with the support of the nodal officers at the district level have collaborated with the Health department and initiated vaccination drives at the village level. Through our awareness programmes and promotion of Covid Appropriate behaviours we hope that the virus spread will be mitigated.

With your support, we have reached 14285 families with COVID relief and awareness programs. We are thankful to you for your generous support and prayers for our team as we reach many vulnerable people. We hope you will be encouraged by the update of our engagement and stories of people who have received a ‘helping hand’ in this time of crisis. I urge you to continue to join us as we respond, bringing hope and healing among those who have been affected the most.
