Distribution- Kukna

Vadal Bhai Kokni is a 42 year old man from Jhawda village of Dangs District. He belongs to Kukna tribe. He is a farmer and owns three acres of land

Till the year 2000 he used to grow Desi (local), variety of paddy which is a low yielding variety. He would harvest 400 kgs from the 6 kgs he would plant. This was not enough to support his family for the whole year. He had to migrate to towns nearby in the summer months in search of livelihood to take of their family need.

When EFICOR introduced a new hybrid variety of crop he was one of the selected farmers who was given 6 kgs of improved variety of paddy seeds which he planted in his land. To his surprise, he harvested 2700 kg of paddy out of the 6 kgs he planted.

The harvest could sustain the family sufficiently for the whole year. Now he need not migrate to earn for his living. He is also able to spend time with his family members.
