EFICOR completed its last phase of distribution
of Pherens, GI sheets, blankets, utensils, and polyethylene
sheets to the community before the onset of snowfall and in
the midst of militant activities.
All relief materials from different sources arriving at Srinagar
were loaded and sent to the relief site. EFICOR had to distribute
its materials in villages assigned by the Government/army.
In doing that, the materials had to pass through villages
which were to receive relief from other sources. There were
concerns that impatient villagers are intercepting trucks
carrying materials meant for other areas/villagers. The army
and administration helped to maintain order so that there
was no adverse impact.

People from neighbouring villages approached EFICOR that
their villages also be included for distribution. As these
villages had been allocated to other NGOs for relief distribution,
the team expressed its inability. EFICOR also assisted 77
widows in Lachipura, in Mayen region by providing relief materials
to them.
A total number of 2150 families have been assisted covering
a total of 10 villages, including the widows and porters in
different locations. After completing all the other formalities
the team prepared to return to the head office. The affected
area being covered by army, it is uncertain what would be
the long term role of NGOs. As the Government's plans are
still not clear, no decision has been taken about EFICOR’s
future plans of intervention.
